About Us

AnthroWatch is a non-stock, non-profit organization that supports indigenous peoples in the Philippines.

Beginnings

Anthropology Watch (AnthroWatch) was founded by a group of anthropology graduate students of the University of the Philippines, Diliman in 1993 with the purpose of bridging a perceived gap between the academic focus of education and the practice of development anthropology through actual engagement in development work.

The organization was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 8, 1994.

Our Vision and Mission

AnthroWatch has the vision of sustainable, self-managed communities, especially IP communities in the Philippines which have secure Ancestral Domains.  Our mission is to work toward this vision by conducting research, Geographic Information System (GIS), mapping, training and advocacy through processes that are participatory, gender-fair, culturally appropriate and ecologically sound.

Our Thrusts

AnthroWatch takes up strategies that are always linked to upholding the indigenous peoples rights. Institutional strategies to consolidate the gains achieved in the past are constantly employed. Aside from the technical services provided by the institution to indigenous peoples, networking and linkaging with other institutions of different capacities are utilized to further strengthen the security of the IP communities to their ancestral domains. Continuous advocacy work is also essential in moving forward the implementation of sound policies attached to international and local instruments concerned with the indigenous peoples.
